Performance

Petrol Or Diesel?

The Nissan X-TRAIL is available in a choice of petrol or diesel engines. Whichever you choose, the X-TRAIL has the grunt you need to get you wherever you want to go and, more importantly, back again.

2.5 litre petrol engine

The 2.5 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine features a Continuous Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), which constantly adjusts the valve timing to improve combustion and optimise performance. It also generates lower noise and vibration. This gutsy petrol engine with twin overhead camshafts delivers peak performance of 125kW of power and a maximum torque of 226Nm.

2.0 litre diesel engine

This energetic 4 cylinder turbo charged 16 valve power plant features Nissan's very latest in common-rail diesel technology and produces a whopping 127kW of power and 360Nm of torque on the manual model. This engine has all the tough power and torque characteristics of a diesel yet provides the responsiveness you'd expect from a petrol engine.

ALL-MODE 4x4-i technology

The ALL-MODE 4x4-i dial allows you to choose between '2WD', 'AUTO' (fully automatic 4WD) or 'LOCK' mode depending on driving conditions. The Mode control dial is conveniently situated behind the gear lever on the centre console. When in 'AUTO' mode, the system utilises predictive sensors to analyse the terrain as you drive, providing precisely the right amount of torque to each wheel. The inclusion of sensors monitor side, front and rear G-force, yaw rates and steering angles for improved stability in varied driving conditions.

Xtronic CVT transmission

The X-TRAIL petrol's Xtronic Continuously Variable Automatic Transmission (CVT) is a computer controlled 'stepless' transmission providing a virtually limitless number of ratios, ensuring the engine is always working as efficiently as possible. It's more comfortable, too: a long uphill drive in a conventional automatic will invariably be accompanied by regular down shifts as the engine hunts for power. With CVT, the engine revs stay constant as the transmission itself adjusts seamlessly to ensure momentum is maintained. For a more sporty drive, the CVT system has Manual Mode (M-Mode), which is operated via the central gear stick, 6 set ratios can be accessed manually by nudging the lever forward or back.

6-speed automatic

The smooth 6-speed automatic is a close ratio transmission designed for optimised gear selection to suit your driving conditions. br

6-speed manual

The 6-speed manual transmission offers improved gear design and surface finishing. The shift guiding plate lends an improved performance feel with wide gear ratios and reduced friction for improved fuel efficiency.

Hill start assist

Allows you to accelerate the vehicle and move uphill with ease. The brake remains engaged for a few seconds when on a steep hill while you switch your foot from the brake to the accelerator - helping prevent roll back.

Hill descent control

Hill descent control uses the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to apply braking pressure and keep your vehicle at approximately 8kmh as you move down a steep incline, helping you maintain control.br

Active Brake Limited Slip

Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS) is designed to help you in slippery conditions. Without ABLS, if one wheel starts spinning, most of the power of the engine will go to that wheel and the car won't go anywhere. ABLS moderates the engine power and gently applies braking pressure to the wheel that's lost traction, allowing the power to go to the other wheels to get you moving again.

Suspension

The Nissan X-TRAIL features a MacPherson strut front suspension system with coil springs and stabiliser bar, and a parallel multi-link strut rear suspension system that will keep you enjoying the ride whether you're on or off the main road.

DOHC

A double overhead cam is characterised by two camshafts located within the cylinder head, one operating the inlet valves and one operating the exhaust valves.

Fuel economy

Petrol models have a fuel consumption of 9.5* litres per 100km (manual) and 9.3* litres per 100km (CVT automatic), whilst diesel models have a fuel consumption of 7.5* litres per 100km (manual) and 8.1* litres per 100km (6-speed automatic). The X-TRAIL fuel tank capacity is 65 litres em(*figures have been calculated in accordance with ADR8102. Actual fuel consumption will vary depending on driving conditions, driver behaviour, the condition of your vehicle and the accessories fitted).

Power steering

Power steering improves manoeuvrability of the X-TRAIL around tight corners and during city driving.

Safety

State Of The Art Safety

The X-TRAIL is packed with state of the art safety features so you can enjoy permanent peace of mind. Superior control and traction is achieved through Nissan's Electronic Stability Program (ESP), as well as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). You'll also find 6 standard SRS airbags, ventilated disc brakes, front active head restraints and much more.

Stablility Program

Electronic Stability Program, is an advanced safety feature, which helps you remain in control of your vehicle during critical situations to avoid serious accidents. The system achieves this by comparing the actions of the driver with the momentary vehicle behaviour and controls the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Traction Control Systems (TCS) accordingly, to initiate the appropriate corrective action by selectively braking individual wheels and controlling engine power. This stabilises the vehicle and keeps it on its intended path.

Vehicle design

Vehicle design and ride height offer excellent visibility for improved safety. The high intensity cabin structure is designed to maintain its integrity in the event of an accident.

Dual front airbags

reduces the risk of facial and upper body injuries to the driver and passenger in the event of a frontal collision. The airbags are designed to remain inflated long enough to help provide enhanced protection.

Dual side airbags

Side airbags are deployed in the event of a side impact to protect the driver and passenger.

Dual curtain airbags

Furthermore, roof mounted curtain side impact supplemental airbags drop down in the event of a side impact for added head protection.

Anti-lock Braking System

The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps you retain directional control whilst braking. It optimises braking performance by sensing wheel lock and sending a signal to the braking system to release the locked wheel. As the wheel unlocks, it can be steered. The system individually applies and releases the brakes to help provide optimum stopping and control under extreme braking situations.

Brake Assist

In emergency braking situations, Brake Assist (BA) generates extra pressure on the braking system. Brake Assist and ABS work together to give optimum control by preventing wheel lockage when braking.

Brakeforce Distribution

Senses the load condition of both passengers and luggage to optimise rear brakeforce and control front and rear brake distribution. This enables safer driving, whether on your own or while carrying a full load of passengers or cargo.

Seatbelt pretensioners

The front seatbelts include a pretensioner and load limiter. The pretensioner uses sensors to determine the severity of a potential crash and instantly tightens accordingly. Should additional force be exerted on the seatbelt, the load limiter ensures appropriate give so as to reduce any damaging pressure on the torso of front seat occupants.

Active head restraints

Front active head restraints provide additional neck protection for front seat occupants against serious injury from the effects of whiplash in the event of a rear collision.

Privacy glass

Privacy glass on the rear window and side windows (excluding driver and front passenger windows) is a dark tinted glass that stops prying eyes from seeing your rear seat and boot luggage.

Child safety

Three child seat anchorage points add greater seating flexibility, depending on your particular needs. Child safety rear door locks also prevent children from accidentally opening the rear doors.

Side intrusion bars

Robust door reinforcements and an anti-intrusion door structure mean impact energy is distributed to the body side structures in the event of an accident.

Crumple zones

The front of the X-TRAIL features a crumple zone, which helps absorb impacts. The energy-absorbing interior steering column compresses during frontal impacts to improve occupant safety significantly. The rear, inbuilt crumple zone furthermore helps absorb impact and reduce the risk of injury.

Four disc brakes

Heat is dissipated more rapidly to improve braking action, promote less brake fade and enhance brake life.

Halogen headlights

Halogen headlights provide brilliant, sharp illumination for night driving, improving safety.

NATS

The Nissan Anti Theft System (NATS) is an engine immobiliser that works via a chip located in the key fob which communicates with the vehicle's computer to allow it to start. If a different key is being used, the vehicle will not be allowed to start.

Security alarm

Diesel models feature the added benefits of a security alarm.
